The HealthPartners Institute Dermatology Residency Program opened in 2019, and is housed in a large multispecialty group located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, MN. The program is fully accredited by the ACGME, and our first class of residents graduated in 2022.
We greatly value our resident physicians as our colleagues. To this end, a significant portion of the clinics that our residents work in are continuity style, where residents have their own panels of patients that they will follow longitudinally over three years. They will, of course, receive support and supervision of a dedicated faculty, appropriate for their level of training.
We support and educate our resident physicians to become productive and respected dermatologists within their medical communities. Improving health and well-being in partnership with our patients is the mission of our integrated health care system, and the basis of training our resident physicians to provide comprehensive and compassionate dermatologic care, with consideration for cost of care. We provide a nurturing, collegial and collaborative environment for our resident physicians to become competent in all aspects of dermatologic medicine and cutaneous surgery. Our resident physicians will become engaged in life-long learning through a program that integrates the ACGME core competencies into daily practice. We are committed to building the foundation for our future colleagues to make important contributions to the field of dermatology, through committed clinical practice and/or academic pursuits.
On behalf of our faculty and residents, I want to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to you from the HealthPartners Institute Dermatology Residency Program. Since our inaugural class of residents started in 2019, our program has built a solid, innovative, and friendly place for learning all aspects of dermatology.
HealthPartners and Park Nicollet together are one of the largest multispecialty groups in the country. Our faculty’s expertise covers all aspects of dermatology including general and advanced medical dermatology, procedural dermatology, pediatric dermatology, contact dermatitis and patch testing, dermatopathology, and cosmetic dermatology. In addition to clinical learning, we have dedicated didactic time weekly as well as regular department-wide journal clubs and monthly department grand rounds.
In our community-based outpatient clinics you will care for patients with common as well as complex dermatologic conditions. You will become proficient in dermatologic procedures, and you will have substantial exposure to dermatopathology and pediatric dermatology. Our residents also spend time in our nationally recognized patch testing clinic. We have a busy virtual inpatient consultation service in which the residents are actively involved.
Our learning environment is open, collaborative, supportive, and creative. We hope to develop physicians who will provide excellent care to their patients but now and going forward and learn to challenge the status quo with evidence-based medicine and innovative approaches to expand dermatology as a dynamic specialty. We envision each of our residents becoming an integral part of not only our care group but also the broader medical communities of the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. So again, welcome to the HealthPartners Institute Dermatology Residency Program. We look forward to embarking on this educational journey with you and supporting your growth as a skilled and compassionate dermatologist.
