HealthPartners Dermatology is one of the largest dermatology groups in the nation, providing comprehensive care across a growing network of clinics throughout Minnesota. Visiting medical students gain hands-on exposure to diverse patient populations, complex dermatologic disease, and every major dermatology subspecialty while learning alongside expert faculty and residents in our ACGME-accredited training program.
Going forward we will be accepting applications through VSLO. More information to come.
We are proud to offer 2 Dermatology rotations.

Advanced Dermatology Rotation – HealthPartners Institute (MS4)
The Advanced Dermatology rotation at HealthPartners Institute is a clinical elective designed for fourth‑year medical students with a strong interest in dermatology or related fields. Students gain advanced exposure to medical, surgical, and procedural dermatology in high‑volume outpatient settings, working closely with attending dermatologists and residents. Clinical experiences may include evaluation and management of complex inflammatory, infectious, and neoplastic skin diseases; skin cancer screening; biopsies; dermatopathology correlation; and participation in dermatologic procedures as appropriate to skill level. Emphasis is placed on strengthening diagnostic reasoning, developing dermatologic descriptions and assessments, and functioning with increasing independence within a multidisciplinary care team. This rotation prepares students for dermatology residency or enhances dermatologic competence for future practice in other specialties.
We encourage all rotators to actively participate in our resident didactics, which are an important and valuable part of the educational experience. Attendance is expected.
Didactics occur every Wednesday at St. Louis Park:
7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
12:15 PM – 5:00 PM
At the end of the rotation, the student rotator will be expected to give a 10 minute presentation to residents and faculty.
Presentation topics may include:
An interesting clinical case
Research
A dermatology topic of interest
Another educational topic you would like to share
Consider this presentation an opportunity for rotating medical students to share something they found interesting during their rotation and to teach the group something new. Faculty and residents enjoy seeing the unique interests and perspectives that each student brings to the rotation.
